Frequently asked questions

What is Open Banking?
Open Banking is a system that allows you to share your financial data with authorised third-party providers. This is done through APIs, which allow different software systems to communicate with each other securely.

Is Open Banking safe?
Yes. Open Banking in the UK is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Third-party providers must be authorised and monitored to ensure they comply with strict security standards. You control who has access to your data and for what purposes.

How do APIs work?
An API is a set of instructions that allows different software systems to communicate with each other. When you use Open Banking, you will be asked to give permission for a third-party provider to access your financial data to offer you services or products. Our APIs use advanced encryption and authentication methods to protect your data.

Can anyone access my data?
No. Only authorised third-party providers can access your data through Open Banking, and only with your consent. You can revoke consent at any time if you no longer want a provider to have access.

Can a third-party provider make a payment from my account without my authorisation?
No. A third-party provider cannot make a payment from your account without your authorisation. You will always be asked to confirm and authorise any payment on the bank's website or mobile app before it is initiated.

What information will companies be able to see?
Third parties will only be able to see the financial data that you have given them permission to access. This might include information about your accounts, transactions and balances, but they will not be able to see sensitive information beyond what you have authorised.
